On Friday morning, June 10, we received the sad news that Herman Sastrowijaya (also known as Hermanto) passed away suddenly at the age of 39.
Many of us know Hermanto from visiting Thalassa as a Guest Relations Officer, or visiting the school. In the many years we have worked with Hermanto, he has always worked diligently for the students, both inside and outside the school. Hermanto was able to bring out the best in the students. We were able to experience this all together through the numerous singing and dancing performances when visiting Thalassa Manado.
Zo zorgde hij voor het instuderen van zang en dans alsmede de kostuums en grimeur, waaronder de zeer bekende en alom geprezen act van de Trash Zombies.
In addition, Hermanto saw to it that children and students were accepted into the project, but was also very involved in the ups and downs of the students. After being notified by teachers or other agencies, he visited the family at home to assess the situation.
Of this he made a full report with photographs. This made it possible to keep a grip on the need for support from the foundation and its donors. He also saw to it that the board received a periodic financial report of the money flows.
On Monday, June 13, Hermanto was buried amid great interest. It pained many of us not to be able to attend. We will forever remember his smile and warmth.
Rest in peace good friend, you went way too soon.
